Get started with PromptFern in 5 minutes.
This guide walks you through setting up PromptFern to monitor your brand across AI assistants.
PromptFern is a hosted service — no installation required. Just sign up and start monitoring.
Step 1: Create Your Account
Sign up
Go to app.promptfern.com and sign up with Google or email.
Create a workspace
After signing in, you'll be prompted to create your first workspace. A workspace is where your team collaborates on brand monitoring.
- Workspace name: Your company or team name
- Company size: Helps us tailor your experience
- Primary country: Your main market for localized monitoring
Step 2: Set Up Your Brand
Add brand details
Navigate to Brand in the sidebar and fill in your brand information:
- Brand name: Your company or product name
- Website: Your primary domain (e.g.,
yourcompany.com) - Description: A brief description of what you do
- Industry: Your business category
- Key features: Main products or services to track
Define your target persona
Optionally, describe your ideal customer. This helps PromptFern craft prompts that match how real customers search.
Step 3: Add Competitors
Go to Competitors
Click Competitors in the sidebar.
Add competitors
Click Add Competitor and enter:
- Name: Competitor's brand name
- Website: Their domain
- Relation: Direct competitor, indirect, or ignored
PromptFern will track how AI models compare you to these competitors.
Step 4: Create Your First Monitor
Navigate to Monitors
Click Monitors in the sidebar.
Create a monitor
Click New Monitor and configure:
- Topic name: What you're tracking (e.g., "Best CRM Software")
- Prompts: Questions customers might ask AI assistants
- Channels: Which AI platforms to monitor (ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, etc.)
- Cadence: How often to run (daily, weekly, or manual)
Example prompts
Here are effective prompt types to monitor:

Run your first monitor
Click Run Now to immediately capture AI responses. Results appear within a few minutes.
Step 5: Explore Your Dashboard
Once your first monitor completes, explore the insights:
Overview
See your visibility score, top citations, and how you compare to competitors.
Responses
Read the actual AI responses mentioning your brand. See sentiment, key themes, and alignment with your messaging.
Citations
Discover which websites AI models cite when discussing your brand. Great for identifying content opportunities.
Step 6: Set Up Website Analytics (Optional)
Track when AI bots crawl your website:
Go to Analytics
Click Website Analytics in the sidebar.
Copy the tracking snippet
You'll see a JavaScript snippet like:

View AI bot traffic
Return to the Analytics dashboard to see which AI crawlers visit your site, which pages they access, and how often.
