How Settings Affect Monitoring

Brand detection

Your brand name and aliases determine what PromptFern flags as a "mention" in AI responses. Configure variations to catch all references:

  • Full name: "PromptFern"
  • Variations: "Prompt Fern", "promptfern.com"

Prompt generation

When PromptFern suggests prompts, it uses your industry, description, and persona to create relevant queries.

Competitive positioning

Your industry and description help contextualize competitive analysis and share of voice metrics.

Citation analysis

Your website domain identifies which citations in AI responses are to your own content vs external sources.

Workspace vs Brand Settings

PromptFern has two levels of settings:

Workspace Settings

Apply to your entire team:

  • Workspace name
  • Company size
  • Primary country
  • Default language

Access via Settings in the sidebar.

Brand Settings

Apply to a specific brand you're tracking:

  • Brand name and identity
  • Website and domains
  • Industry and positioning
  • Target persona

Access via Brand in the sidebar.

A workspace can have multiple brands. This is useful for agencies managing client brands or companies with multiple product lines.

Best Practices

Be specific

Generic descriptions produce generic results. Be specific about what makes your brand unique.

❌ "We help businesses grow" ✅ "AI-powered email marketing platform for D2C ecommerce brands"

Include aliases

Add all variations of your brand name:

  • Formal name: "PromptFern, Inc."
  • Common name: "PromptFern"
  • Domain: "promptfern.com"
  • Abbreviations: "PF"

Update regularly

Keep your brand settings current:

  • New products or features
  • Positioning changes
  • Market focus shifts

Define the persona clearly

A well-defined persona helps generate prompts that match real customer queries.
